Where in the world is Osama Bin Laden?
I love the title of this movie, from the director of ‘Super Size Me’.. Watching this is certainly better than trying to study for my exam tomorrow, for which I don’t know what to do as my lecturer is the worst I’ve managed to have in the three years of my college career. Anyway, enjoy the clips & I love that the trailer has Gogol Bordello’s ‘Wanderlust King’ as the soundtrack:
‘Grindhouse’ - possibly the best cinema experience?
As I’ve already talked about a bit, I went to see ‘Grindhouse’ last night. Now I know the film didn’t do brilliantly as a double feature, but the only thing that proves is that people are fucking idiots. I cannot remember the last time I was at a movie where the audience burst into applause at various points during the films. Now personally I can’t recommend both films enough, though ‘Planet Terror’ is clearly the better of the two and you really need to watch the whole thing as the single film experience, and preferably in the cinema to get the full value of it. There are a few things that I should mention though:
The ‘Grindhouse’ Fake Movie Trailers
Grindhouse plays in Cork in a week and a half - who’s interested in going to see it? The fake trailers are just class, I really hope the plans to make some into ‘real’ films happens. Especially ‘Werewolf Women of the SS’ - what a title!
You are NOT the father!
Man, this show looks SO shit but this clip is just hilarious! Also, the Wikipedia page for this is absolutely brilliant, as it’s really badly written:
Usually, when the man is shown to be the father, the woman gets up, chases the man, victoriously declares that she told him so, and does the “give me yo money” dance which includes cash hand gestures. Then she challenges him to follow through on his claim that he will provide support to the child; there is usually no follow-up to see if this actually happens, possibly due to the rather large number of cases that appear on the show monthly. Upon such confirmation, most men accept the fact that they are the father. Conversely, when the man is proven not to be the father, it is common for the men to celebrate by performing dance steps or running in to the audience to high-five audience members while the women walk or run backstage crying, often collapsing (or sometimes even diving) to the floor into the fetal position. In such cases, the man rarely receives an apology.
A new ‘Dune’ movie?
Just as I was trying to kill some time today I wandered into waterstone’s to see if I could find ‘Sandworms of Dune’ the final book in the ‘Dune’ series. I’ve no idea if it’ll be any good but I seem to recall enjoying the previous book ‘Hunters of Dune’ so hopefully. Oddly enough then, after going and buying this book I see on Whitechapel that apparently there’s a new ‘Dune’ movie planned. While to be honest, I doubt anything will ever live up to the planned version by Alejandro Jodorowsky, the art for which would have been by Moebius, I’ll be quite interested to see how this version of the movie turns out…

Update: there’s some pretty good informationa and artwork here
In Bruges
Saw this film last night, to put it simply, it’s the third movie that I’ve seen in a row where I would describe the tone as ‘odd’ - like ‘Juno’ & ‘Rambo’, there are moments of great seriousness in the movie which are undermined (for lack of a better word presenting itself) by the dialogue and the situation and how the characters react to it. For all that, it’s rather funny, with Colin Farrell’s (retarded? … certainly not exactly sane) hitman having some great lines… ”They’re filming midgets!!” being my own personal favourite. Anyway, it’s worth a watch for it’s sheer ‘uniqueness’. Read the rest of this entry »
New Watchmen Photo’s Online
Here are a batch of photos put up for the new ‘Watchmen’ movie based on the Alan Moore graphic novel. I have to admit I’m getting horrible memories of Joel Schumacher’s ‘Batman & Robin’ but hopefully they’ll look better on screen. Some other ‘Watchmen’ related stuff I’ve posted here and here.

Does Snuff Exist?
Surprisingly good documentary on horror movies and supposed ’snuff’ movies. Granted, at the start it’s more of a history of certain types of ‘video nasties’ than about snuff itself but as it goes along it shows how there have been ‘possible examples’ of snuff. Interesting also is the ‘chicken or egg’ question. Does demand creaty supply or supply demand? The moors murders example was one I hadn’t heard before.
Anyone want to go see Dhoom 2?
Apparently this film is playing in UCC next Wednesday.. Now I’m kind of suspicious of these kind of films because the amount of ‘Hong Kong Legends’ dvds I have where the trailer looked exactly like this and yet the movie turned out to be dire is quite shocking. Anyway, what do you think?
The Scottish Falsetto Puppet Theatre does ‘Primeval’
I don’t even watch the show and this is hilarious…
