The Legend of Koizumi

I recently came across this Anime from a friend’s facebook account. According to the wikipedia article the show is based off a manga comic that satirises politics with mahjong games used to decide international relations.

It’s completely barmy as you can imagine.

Some of the touches, like Kim Jong Il’s son having ‘mickey mouse’ ears are nice nods to real world events and definitely add to the strangeness of the episodes. Anyway, I’ve put up what I can find off youtube so enjoy:

The Black Panther

Continuing Marvel Comics current stance of good works which they keep a fair bit of control over, here’s a sample video for a new ‘Black Panther’ cartoon. Heavily based off the new version of the comic that came out a few years ago, you can really see the John Romita Jr. artwork. There’s some interesting interviews here with some of the cartoon’s creators.

The Adventures of Mark Twain

I already talked about part of this movie before, this is the whole film. Not bad, though certain parts are better than others. Its got a weird ‘metatextual’ vibe going on, though the Adam & Eve stuff is pretty good:

Justice League: The New Frontier

I may not have bought it yet but it is pretty good and well worth the buy. It has gotten the tone of the book down pretty well, though unsurprisingly enough, lacking the space for the subplots that made up the book, it feels a bit … emptier. On a tech note, for some reason the film goes into black and white every so often. Try and ignore it:

Ah, Memories – Dial M For Monkey

While I’m supposed to be studying, I instead went looking into some old Cartoon Network stuff and came across some fairly entertaining shorts. Like this old ‘Dial M For Monkey’ ep. What was weird was how well hearing Dexter’s (of Dexter’s Lab fame) voice and the music brought back the feeling of being a kid again.

I’m always amazed when you see this sort of short-sighted reporting

From ABC.Net

A Japanese father has called for his own son to hang after a gruesome murder spree in which the teenager killed three family members before slashing open his mother’s belly and putting a doll inside. The father says he will seek the death penalty for his 18-year-old son, who is a fan of the grisly Hannibal Lecter novels and has written horror stories himself.

Now the part I have emphasised suggests that it was the ‘horror interest’ that made that kid bad no? But further down the article:

The father, who divorced the boy’s mother a decade ago and has been in and out of prison on blackmail charges, admitted he was partly responsible for his son’s poor upbringing.

I really hate the fact that the way that article is written is done in such a way that it clearly places more emphasis on the ‘interests’ of the child than in his upbringing, I mean this sort of crap always happens in the analysis of these ‘youth violence’ incidents, especially in the American media, I mean you can just see this event being used by some ‘moral majority’ jackass to ‘prove’ how ‘horror movies corrupt children’..

Bah, I’m tired and cranky but still… This crap really pisses me off..

I swear the world gets more sci-fi every day…

Its not quite
mecha
but
power_assist_robot_suit.jpg
is an interesting idea

Relying on real-time data from an array of sensors that detect muscle movement, the suit enhances physical strength by controlling the movement of 8 different motors that provide support to the shoulders, knees, arms and legs. To the wearer, heavy objects seem as light as 10 kilograms (22 lbs).

A question on Ghost in the Shell:Stand Alone Complex

I recently just finished watching the first season and the movie that follows the second season and I have a question for all of you out there. While I ‘got’ the basic plot of the show from what was provided on the DVDs I’ve had to go around and read various things, including the wikipedia pages on the show to ‘get’ everything. Do you think this is a good thing or a bad thing for a show?
