Liberal Fascism?
I heard about this book and it sounds really fucking stupid. Nice to see John Stewart getting into the stupidity:

Do you not think there’s something to the fact that they cut out 2/3 of the interview? The interview’s been so heavily edited it’s nearly unwatchably incoherent. Stewart really doesn’t treat Goldberg’s argument with any seriousness, he really can’t be credited with taking him on in any real way. I know you see the idea that Goldberg’s putting forward about the differences between modern-day “liberalism” in America and the liberalism of 1930s Europe — do you think Stewart genuinely doesn’t, or is he just acting stupid for laughs?
It’s bizarre for so many people to have such a strong reaction against this book without having read it. Plenty of books have attention-grabbing names, it’s usually a good idea to read them before you judge them!
Well, tbh, I would imagine Stewart is just going for the Lowest Common Denominator and saying that stuff for the laugh.
As for the strong reaction - and to some extent Stewart covers this in the idea of ‘vegetarians are fascist’ comment, I just think that saying ‘Hillary Clinton is a fascist’ is a very hard argument to take seriously…
Also, from what I have read of the book and its contents, it does give me the impression that the writer is just ‘Democrat/liberal-bashing’ rather than taking into account that most of the ‘truly’ fascist laws in the U.S have been done by the last Republican administration…. If your going to work from such a perspective, try and not make it SO partisan..
Oh, and Sam, Nice to see your still looking at the old blog:)
