Id chase up some ethics on the “integrity of the individual”. Usually utilitarianism is seen as being ambivalent toward self-harm for financial gain.
Kant however had the whole categorical imperative and the value of individuals. So its a debatable point whether his ethics would allow an individual to treat himself as an end rather than as a means.
Anyhow sometwhere to start on that angle. The wider issue probably stems from there.
