Violence in the country….

Was just reading this over at ProgressiveIreland.blogspot.com. It raises several interesting points – which are generally correct.

The fact is, that I feel the same. In the two years I’ve been going out in Cork I’ve hardly seen that much trouble and only had trouble myself once – in which the guys involved actually let me walk away. At home, I wouldn’t have had a chance.

Now granted, ‘home’ for me is Waterford – the city with the highest murder rate that isn’t gang-related in the country but still…. The simple fact is that whenever you’re out there there is an awful lot of argo on the streets. And while Cian on ProgressiveIreland was talking about the ‘country’ (small c) the fact is that in many ways Waterford is just a large town.

It’s a worrying situation, and made moreso by the fact that nobody (myself included) seems to have a handle on what’s cuasing it…

Ideas anyone?
