Uuuuggghhh….

Apologies to all about the recent lack of new material. The general busy-ness of my life has kept me going overmuch the last few days. Stayed up last night watching the elections – gave up once it became appearent that the Dems had the house and that the senate wasn’t going to be sorted anytime soon (still hasn’t become clear who has it yet as far as I’m aware). As a result of this I slept through my lectures this morning only waking at 12.30.

Now I’m trying to start some history projects.

George Galloway at the UCC Philosoph…

So, Cian’s already covered this in a fair amount of detail anyway but I figured that I’d throw in my two cents into the conversation even so…

The basic facts first; George Galloway proposed the house motion “That this house believies US foreign policy is the greatest crime since World War II”. In opposition was the former Sinn Fein/ The Worker’s Party member and these days film producer Gerry Gregg. Gregg said something to the effect that Galloway had ‘never met a dictator he didn’t take to or take from’ and Galloway freaked out. This led to him walking out and taking a lot of people with him (though some of those I suspect just decided to leave now that Galloway – the main attraction, was gone).

Now, my opinion on this. Personally, I feel Galloway overeacted and was not exactly not being personally abusive himself. As such the whole debate took on a rather childish quality in my opinion. While obviously one has to defend their reputation Galloway’s method’s struck me as rather overly-aggressive and childish.

Will I go see Galloway speak again? Probably. Have I as much potential respect for him as I had before? I doubt it, even though in terms of his opposition to large areas of US policy and Palestine we are on the same page mostly.

Is it pessimism when…

You not only expect things to go wrong, but also when good things happen wonder how they’re going to go badly?

So I’m back, Muse and the weekend….

So survived going to Dublin and travelling back – two before 6am starts in order to get the bus though. Very nearly not worth it.

Competed in the UCD novice competition – came joint 4th/5th – got the same as the fourth place guys on team points but was knocked down to 5th on speaker points. My teammate tells me we did well – I’m still kinda pissed over it.

And then there was Muse. Which wasn’t as good as I’d hoped it would be to be honest. There was just the one support act – the Noisettes who were quite good but their set was barely 30minutes long. Muse only did an hour and fourty. Now I have been told that’s not too bad but even so…. Their set also had way too much from their new (and definately worst) album, and while I was in the pit, so were a load of fifteen-year-old walking abortions. It’s been a while since I wanted a crowbar on hand for that much indescriminate violence. Or maybe I’m just getting old.

So now I actually have to start working for college – the essays, assignment’s etc. are getting a bit much.

Damn.

The next few days will be fairly quiet…

Becuase I’m heading to Andrew Maxwell tonight, am up at 5am tomorrow, heading to Dublin and going to Muse in the Point Friday.

Im still not recovered from the OctoberFest last weekend or Halloween last night.

The blog may be shut down in a few days – I can see the headline:

‘Student dies from exaustion – study not a factor doctors say’.

So, assuming I’m still alive in a few days I’ll start posting properly again.
