Sure you can find sufficient essays etc. in the footnotes of the, I guess, core text from which you read for your essay. I’m doing one currently on the Problem of Evil (you’re in Philosophy too, aren’t you? What do you think?), and the 6 or 7 books I’ve picked out were all listed as footnotes to one essay; or, at least, where footnotes of a footnoted text. Otherwise anything I find is entirely arbitrary, which is never a good thing. Well, not usually.

What do I think of what exactly? Philosophy as a subject in general or the problem of evil? I don’t actually do philosophy – I do politics. And therefore bits of political philosophy. Did politics last year though, was fun. The problem with the footnotes for my essay was that a lot of them are not actually about that specific topic, they appear as subsets of other articles/topics and as such are well summarised by my lecturer. Part of the reason he did this book/reader was that there are no books about violence as a whole in existence (at least thats what he claims)
