Irish news….

Was just reading this article here on Irish Election and it has me wondering if any of you can direct me to a ‘good’ Irish news site. Not a blog, but an actual site like the BBC news service. I realised reading that article that my current access/knowledge to Irish News is rather pitiful. Suggestions?

Clinton on the attack…

Realy good part of the recent interview with Bill Clinton on Fox News. He’s a very impressive showman on this and it’s very well done how he calls the Fox News anchor on how he’s such a swarmy little bastard…

Enjoy.

Sufjan Stevens and the State of Michigan…

As those few of you that are somewhat regualar readers of my blog may or may not remember I did a quick review of the Avalanche album by the same artist a while back.

So a few weeks ago I came across the ‘Michigan’ album – it being the other album that has been produced in the ’50 States’ idea that Stevens has come out with. Having not realy listened to it yet I decided that I might as well give it a shot now.

And it’s a dissappointment.

The album has the unfortunate quality of ‘musak’, it’s not realy that strong and is the sort of music that you forget your listening to. There are no real strong ‘songs’ on this album with most of it realy being instrumental. Even the vocals are rather subdued with the clever vocal tricks of ‘Illinois’ and ‘The Avalanche’ being largely missing.

Even so, there are glimpses of the style of those albums, but only in the way that the whole album resemles the ‘filler’ tracks from those albums.

If your already a fan this might interest you as a glimpse into the evolution of the artist, but if your looking for something to start with go to ‘Illinois’.

Metallica, Lego, Whiskey in the Jar.

Was directed to this by a friend of mine – a version of ‘Whiskey in the Jar’ done by Metallica and filmed in Lego. Funny stuff.

So, I’m really back…

Have spent the day with a horrible, horrible hangover.

Forgot what college and alcohol were like over the summer.

I’m going to bed.

2000ad revival…

With the recent release of the current issue of the ‘Megazine’ and the recent begining of the ‘Origins’ storyline in the regular 2000ad comic I’ve noticed a return to the past in 2000ad in general.

There’s the third ‘America’ book after begining with little fanfare in the Megazine with America Beeny – now in her 10th year as a cadet taking on her first case. It’s done by Wagner and MacNeill again so the connection is there to the other two books. I realy doubt that the Megazine editors expect that this story will reach the lofty heights that the first story reached but it’s interesting to see the continuation of the story….

Which leads nicely into..

Origins.

This is a story that’s appearently going to give us the full, complete story of what happened to America, the Third World War and the full establishment of the Judge System. Heavy stuff – especially since its appearently going to run untuil February 2007, giving the story at least 24episodes.

But here’s my problem.

This whole thing is obviously an attempt to capitalise on past glories – which begs the question of how many new readers are expected out of this whole ‘revival’ attempt.

And yet the talent onside with these books speak of the seriousness of the attempt.

Personally, so far I’m impressed. If your a lasped fan of these books, give them a try before these stories develop too far. If your new – get the books, give them a shot and use the the magic of the internet and google to get the info you need.

Hanging the Elephant…

During my travels i came across this. Truly a bizzare little story but one thats very interesting.

Have to admire the justice system at times – so long as you have a scapegoat, or scape-elephant i suppose you can keep people happy.

Rape and Consent..

Came across this on my travels, hadn’t heard of Fatmammycat’s blog before but this is a realy good piece on the idea of consent. Broadly speaking I have to agree with the assessment she makes of the situation. Interesting stuff.
