Is manipulation a sign of intelligence?

Ok, this is a weird one but in my house we’ve noticed something strange lately…

The dog has learned to manipulate me.

No, i’m not crazy, you see it works this way: dog sees me, starts barking, runs towards the garage, into the garage and looks up at the dogfood. If I don’t respond immediately it runs to me and barks at me.

And it’s always me.

It has learned to do the same with the rest of the family, not just me though, but at the same time it only does it to the others if i’m not there…

We have to lock her in at nights in the garage bacause she barks and keeps us all awake (though mainly me, as my room is on the same side as the kennel) but now in the morning if you are awake early you can hear her scratching at the door to be let out.

So what?

You see, she didn’t do these things before. She has learned to manipulate us only since the summer began.

Anyway, this disturbs us (though mainly me) greatly.

After 13 years in the family, has the dog finally started becoming intelligent?

Or is manipulation something different?

And more disturbingly, what’s next?

More Video’s, Des Bishop and The Hoff

On his own blog page Des Bishop has an absolutely brilliant link to a David Hasslehoff video.

What make’s it funnier is the sheer way that one is incapable of telling what exactly was going on in ‘the Hoff’s’ mind when he did it. Was he trying to be ironic? Is he just crazy? Is he a mastermind at manipulating his own image?

Anyway, it’s pretty funny. Have a look

Why I wouldn’t mind a few comments…

Alrighty then, now i know im getting a few hits (though owing to a conversation with Gavin last night im not 100% sure how accurate that is) and prehaps the site is so bad that any of ye that have looked at it have never come back… But anyway here’s the rub – i’m doing this for myself, at least in the sense of trying to get a bit of practice at the whole writing thing and also to get my head together at things but i can’t know what people think of this without feedback.

So… a few comments on things would be welcome – say im crap, say it makes no sense, say it’s perfect and I need never change it, whatever – but feedback wouldn’t hurt.

More real posts later…

Dc Showcase image

Ok – so i dont want the image for the showcase pic to be too small to see. But i also dont want to have the entire article being a link. I seem to be only able to get an unusable thumbnail or a link on the whole article. Anyone have any ideas on how to get the full pic up without the hassle of a completly linked article?

The DC comics showcase editions

4828_400x6001.jpg

I’ve been recently reading the DcComic’s Presents showcase books, and having just picked up the House of Mystery edition of the series i thought id just do a quick overview of the whole thing.

There’s not a whole lot i want to say about the books beyond the fact that they’re a great buy – though anyone whos read the Marvel comics Essential series is already familiar with the format il explain it for those of you who havent encounterd it before. The idea of the books is simple – classic comics from the 60′s and 70′s reprinted in bulk for cheap. The usual setup is 500 pages for 17$ which is not a bad deal.

But what makes the House of Mysetery edition worth talking about is this – its better than any of the other books of this sort that i’ve purchased before. Considering that 2 of the 4 other editions of these books i possess were written by the team of Stan Lee / Jack Kirby this is an astonishing achievement. Especially when the fact that the stories involved are basically all short Twilight Zone / Outer Limits pieces which half the time are not even remotely scary (especially considering that these comics were done back in the day when comics were ment for children) desptite this the stories have a great charm, are often very imaginative and have some wonderful artwork – the Bernie Wrightson and Wally Wood pieces are worth buying the book for alone.

Anyway, long story short this is a purchase id greatly recommend

limited or no connectivity

We recently got broadband in the house and me being the only one who has any real computer competency, I was left to deal with it (though in fairness i was the one who wanted the braodband) now the broadband works because I’m using it on the laptop but on the house PC it says there is ‘limited or no connectivity’ does anyone have any ideas on how to fix this?
